Stars Shine at Wicked Premiere in Rainy London
London’s South Bank was transformed into the mythical Emerald City as the United Kingdom premiere of “Wicked: Part 1” dazzled fans despite persistent rain on Monday, 18 November.
Held at the Royal Festival Hall, the star-studded event celebrated the musical film’s homecoming, which was filmed across several locations in England, including the Cotswolds and Buckinghamshire.
Director Jon M. Chu and stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, and Michelle Yeoh graced the green carpet to the delight of cheering fans.
Chu described the premiere as particularly meaningful, saying: “This is where all the hundreds and thousands of hands came together, all the brain power, all the creativity, all the crazy dreamers were here.”
Producer Marc Platt reflected on the 20-year journey to bring “Wicked” from stage to screen, praising Chu’s creative vision.
Adapted from the iconic stage musical, “Wicked” explores the evolving friendship between Elphaba (Erivo) and Glinda (Grande) at Shiz University, blending grand spectacle with heartfelt emotion. Cast members highlighted the film’s themes of acceptance, community, and tolerance, which resonate with audiences today.
With Part 1 set for global release on Friday, 22 November, and its sequel arriving next year, “Wicked” promises to captivate loyal fans and newcomers alike.
